Leave for staff with care responsibilities
Published: 9 December 2011
The gale force winds of 8 December are being considered as exceptional circumstances with regard to urgent, short notice leave.
During the the gales of 8th December, some staff had to take time off to deal with care responsibilities at short notice as schools, nurseries and day centres either closed early or were closed all day.
After looking at the weather conditions, the effect of school etc., closures on a number of staff and the developing transport situation, the University decided to postpone classes and examinations, and asked all non-essential staff to leave work early: for most that was well before noon.
In these particular, and possibly unique, circumstances, the University has decided that staff who had to take time off work for unplanned care responsibilities will not need to take leave (whether paid or unpaid), and will be paid normally.
All planned leave requests, of course, are not affected by this: the normal arrangements continue to apply.
