The University have organised another Munro Challenge event to take place over the May Bank Holiday weekend (28 – 30 May). We aim to have a University representative on top of as many Munros as possible in the same weekend, whilst raising money for a good cause.
If you’re a keen walker, a casual rambler or just fancy pitting yourself against the elements, you can sign up first for the hill, or hills, of your choice from the list attached of all 284 Munros. Simply choose which ones you would like to climb, organise a team, and let Susanne Hill from the Development and Alumni Office know which you would like to climb. All hills will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Teams should be between 2 and 8 in number and include at least one experienced walker. The challenge is open to the general public and not just University of Glasgow staff and students.
All participants will be asked to sign a disclaimer and be provided with safety guidelines. We are happy to organise briefing sessions for less experienced walkers - please let Susanne know if you would be interested in these.
This year Munro Challenge will give you the choice to raise funds for one of three University appeals; the Beatson Pebble Appeal, the Small Animal Hospital at the Vet School or SCENE (Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment). When you register for your Munro, you will be sent an information sheet containing details of each appeal so that you can choose which one you wish to raise money for. We are asking participants to try and raise a minimum of £30.00 each for their appeal.
So, why not get a team together and see how much you can raise for your chosen appeal? There will also be a prize for the best photograph at the top!
A list of Scotland's Munros can be found here.
