Irene Diego Rodríguez
Irene Diego Rodríguez received her PhD in Modern Languages from the University of Alcalá University in 2020 and is currently a Lecturer in English at UNED, where she teaches courses on English Literature at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her research interests are chiefly in the field of Manuscript Studies, English Historical Linguistics and Medieval Scientific Literature. She has contributed to international journals, such as Token: A Journal of English Linguistics or Revista de Lengua para Fines Específicos, and has published chapters in volumes edited by Peter Lang or Cambridge Scholars. As an author, she has written the monograph Þe boke of ypocras in Late Middle English Manuscripts (2023). She is currently working on English medical manuscripts from the Medieval and Renaissance periods.
I’m really looking forward to spending time at the University of Glasgow Library this year and I am very grateful for their generous support. During my time as Glasgow University Library Fellow in 2024, I will work with medieval manuscripts from the Hunterian Collection on astrological medicine. The Glasgow University Fellowship will allow me to examine Latin and Middle English manuscripts which contain the tract entitled Astrologia Ypocratis in Latin or Þe boke of Ypocras in English. Thus, I will be able to collate and compare the treatise in both languages to establish parallelisms, similarities, and differences regarding the original and the translated version. This will provide new information about the process of vernacularization of medical texts in late medieval England.
I am also looking forward to being part of the wider research community in Glasgow and spending time in such a great city.
