Quick Start Guide - Library Essentials
Study Spaces to Suit You
Study areas in the main Library are zoned red (silent individual study, levels 8-12), amber (quiet individual study, levels 1, 4-7) and green (group study, levels 2 & 3). Choose a floor to suit your needs.
Family Study Lounge
Bring your children to the family study lounge on level 4 of the library. This child friendly room has student pc's as well as a selection of children's books and toys. Changing facilities are available in the level 4 annexe accessible toilets.
Library Cafe
The cafe is on level 3 and serves hot and cold drinks, snacks and light meals. You can also grab a drink or snack from vending machines on levels 3 and 4.
Other Libraries
You'll find the Chemistry library in the Joseph Black building, James Herriot Library for Vet medicine at Garscube, James Ireland for Dentistry in the Dental School on Sauchiehall St, the Library Research Annexe at Saracen St and University Archives in Thurso St.
Wi-Fi, Print, Scan and Copy
Print scan and copy machines are available throughout the library, tap your campus card on the Pull Print logo to use.
Books and Journals
Use search on the Library website to find print and electronic resources. The results will show if the item is available in print or electronic format.
Borrow, renew and return print books and journals using the self-service kiosks on level 2 and level 6 of the library. Electronic resources are available both on and off campus, 24 hours a day using your University login.
High Demand Collection
The High Demand Collection on level 3 holds popular books, including titles on your reading lists, available to borrow for a period of either 4 or 24 hours. Borrow and return books using the self-service kiosks in the High Demand area.
Specialist Collections and Expert Help
The Library holds collections of international significance to support learning, teaching and research, covering most branches of the arts, sciences, social sciences and medicine.
The College Support Team and College Librarians can help you find in-depth subject information and show you how to use our resources effectively.
- Archives and Special Collections Hold rare books, manuscripts and early photographs as well as official records documenting the history of the University since 1451 and the histories of Scottish businesses since the late 1700's.
- The Maps, Official Publications and Statistics Unit Holds government documents, EU information, law, statistics and more. Expert staff ara available to help with these unique collections.

The Library is open from 07:15 till 02:00 and the welcome desk at the entrance is staffed from 08:00 - 20:00 every day.
