'Ad insigne Pinus'This private press, known by its device 'At the sign of the Pine-Tree', was active in Augsburg from 1594 to 1619. It was run by a group of local humanists, chief among them being David Hoeschel, librarian and Rector of the St Anna Gymnasium. They specialised in the production of Greek and Latin texts, and this example has Greek and Latin on facing pages. The beautiful Greek type used by the press has been identified with that of Robert Granjon. This is the oldest book listed in our collection of private press works.
