Make reflection a central part of assessment

Personal Reflection
Students can select Option 1: Reflective Portfolio or Option 2: Meme with Description and Reflective Essay. For Option 1: students write a reflective entry (c.200 words) per class reflecting on the topic (e.g. Marxism)/a specific aspect of the topic (e.g. Marx’s idea of alienation) considering what they knew before, what they learned from the pre-class reading and prep and class discussion, and where they have developed strengths (e.g how might they use the theory/approach in future) and where and how they can pursue further learning and development. For Option 2: Students design a meme (design is not assessed so it can be very basic) on a particular theory/concept/how we approach critical theory in academia, this is accompanied by a c.400-word explanation of how the meme ‘works’ (what idea does it convey and how?) and this is followed by a further 600-7000 reflective piece on the students learning in the whole course (rather than focussing on a single session: how did they feel about theory before? What did they learn and what can they use this learning for in academia and beyond? And where and how can they develop their knowledge further?)
