Reflection: students are asked to write a personal reflection on what they have learned about the power of language in one of the five areas covered during the course. In previous years of the course, students were asked to write a more traditional essay about the power of language in one of the five areas, but adding the personal reflection element was intended to tackle the use of GenAI in student answers. Alongside their personal reflections, students are asked to refer to specific examples discussed in class to illustrate their points, which would be difficult to achieve with GenAI. For the reflection, students are provided with a variety of possible prompt questions to encourage them to think about their own experience, and these questions would be unnatural to answer using GenAI since the GenAI cannot access the student’s personal experience to generate answers.
