Public WiFi
Previously, visitors at the University could only access WiFi services by a member of staff registering on their behalf and supplying them with credentials. Public WiFi has simplified this by removing the need for registration in favour of a simple “click to connect” experience on the UofGvisitor network so that all guests can access the internet via free WiFi.
The UofG Public WiFi Service (UofGvisitor)
- As part of the University’s ambitious Network Programme, we have teamed up with BT to deliver a new free WiFi service for visitors to the Gilmorehill and Garscube campuses, which was launched on 7th March, 2022.
- This new UofGvisitor WiFi service is available everywhere on campus where WiFi connectivity is present and offers visitors a quick and easy way to stay connected while enjoying our campuses.
- At the click of a button, visitors have access to WiFi for up to two hours, after which time they can easily reconnect (users of the service will also be disconnected from the service after 15 minutes of inactivity).
- UofG students and staff, and visitors with eduroam credentials, should continue to use the eduroam WiFi service, which is:
- Free
- Fast
- Secure
- Uninterrupted
- unlike UofGvisitor WiFi, you can use eduroam continuously for an unlimited time, regardless of inactivity
- Available at thousands of institutions around the world, so you can stay connected wherever you are
