The NP Journey
The Network Programme has completed three of its five phases and is currently progressing through its penultimate fourth phase. This section outlines the journey from Phase 1 (Discovery) all the way through to Phase 5+ (the upgrade of > 200 network equipment rooms, cabling and external fibre as well as the expansion of the wi-fi network).
Where we’ve come from and where we’re going
Where we've come from:
Phase 1-3: Discovery, HLD (High Level Design) & Business Case and Governance & Procurement
- Discovery: We prepared the proposal for the Network Programme
- HLD & Business Case: We created the architecture that would be used as the overview of the entire Network Programme whilst outlining the benefits of proceeding
- Governance & Procurement: We established the Governance framework that will define and control the outputs, outcomes and benefits of the project. We also onboarded our Primary Technology Partner (PTP), Capita, who were awarded the tender for the project works
Where we are:
Phase 4: Foundation
- Foundation: Find out more about where we are: Programme Status
Where we're going:
- Phase 5+: We will upgrade the network node rooms and cabling as well as expand the wifi service throughout and move into the new Business as Usual (BaU) mode of working, continually replacing equipment in a planned manner before the end of its recommended lifespan
Public WiFi
The Network Programme has delivered a solid, mature and feature-rich Public Wi-Fi service for UofG. This service is available everywhere on campus where Wi-fi connectivity is present. This is the UofG’s first provision of a true campus-wide Public Wi-Fi service to its visitors and guests
