Infrastructure and cloud teams
Team Overview
The Infrastructure and Cloud Services teams are based on the main University campus at Gilmorehill. We provide compute, storage and networking services to the entire University and administer the central directory, authentication and messaging services using a variety of enterprise-grade technologies.
Objectives
Our mission is to provide secure and reliable infrastructure services that are the foundation of all digital activity at the University of Glasgow and directly support Strategy 2025
We are transforming the way that we do this, via eight key objectives:
- To upgrade the campus network
- To upgrade the data centre network
- To renew end-of-life compute and storage infrastructure
- Improve network security by implementing a software-defined network
- Exiting two of the existing on-premise data centres
- Migrating to public cloud where appropriate
- Automating the provisioning of infrastructure
- Exposing managed services for easy consumption by others
In recognition of the criticality of Infrastructure and Cloud Services to the purposes of the University, significant investments are being made to renew and modernise. Two large programmes have already commenced to transform our capabilities:

Network Infrastructure Investment Programme
A wholesale campus network refresh that will deliver a high-speed software-defined network for staff, students and guests with significantly enhanced WiFi coverage.

The University’s Infrastructure and Cloud Services teams provide compute, storage and networking services to the entire University from our data centres and the public cloud.
