MyMac enrollment
Guides for setting up and enrolling MyMac devices:
Before setting up and enrolling your device, please ensure all your files and folders have been synced to your OneDrive account.
Set up a new Apple desktop or laptop
Follow the steps below to set up and enrol your new MyMac desktop or laptop:
1. Power on your new device.
2. Once it has started up, you will need to select your Wi-Fi network or network connection first.
If you are setting up a new MyMac on campus use UofG Visitor Wi-Fi, please do not use Eduroam Wi-Fi as you will not be able to complete the full set up
3. Select Next once you’re connected to the internet.
4. Upon start up, when you see the Remote Management window appear, select Continue.
5. The Welcome to your new Mac set up assistant is displayed. Select Next.
6. Please ensure you read the UofG Acceptable Use Policy before proceeding. Once completed, select Agree to continue setting up your Mac.
7. You will then see the Welcome to your Mac window displayed again. To continue set up, select Proceed.
8. The Remote Management window will appear again and the relevant settings and software are now being installed on your Mac. Leave this to set everything up and once this is complete, select Continue.
9. Enable Location Services, by selecting the box beside it. Select Continue.
Sign In to your MyMac
1. After the set up is complete, a Sign In window is displayed. Please login using your UofG email address and continue to walk through the MFA authentication steps.
2. Your account has been created and set up on your Mac.
From now on, use your UofG email address and password to log into this device
MyMac set up assistant
1. You will now see the standard macOS Setup Assistant windows and you can setup your Mac as you wish or choose Not Now to set up later.
2. The next screen you will see after the Setup Assistant will be the Setup my Mac window. This is a custom process created to install all UofG compliant applications onto your device, so you don’t have to.
- Please allow this to install all relevant bits of software.
Note: Microsoft Office may take a while to install as it is the largest app.
- If you restart your machine during this time, you will be met with the FileVault authentication window, which will appear with an empty username and password box. If you are a member of staff, your username will be in the format of firstname.lastname. If you a PGR student, your username will be your student number.
- In both instances your password will be your UofG password
Once installation of apps is complete, you will be taken back to your desktop. You will see some apps in your Dock and you can further customise your Dock to your preferences.
Set up an existing Apple desktop or laptop
Follow the steps to set up and self-enrol your existing UofG Apple desktop (iMac, Mac Studio or MacMini) or laptop as a MyMac device
1. Open Safari and use this browser to enrol.
2. Enter this URL in the address bar: https://jamf.glasgow.ac.uk/enrol and go to this site.
3. You may be prompted to Sign In using your UofG email address and password, if you’re not already signed in.
- If you have 2FA enabled or MFA enabled you will need to authenticate and approve your sign-in request
4. Otherwise, a message will be displayed to continue with enrollment.
5. Select the Continue button to download the MDM profile needed to manage your device – this is the MDM Profile.
6. You should then see the MDM Profile in the Downloads file. Select this to add it to the system profiles.
7. Go to System Settings and search for profiles, select Profiles to review the list.
8. The downloaded MDM Profile will be displayed. Select it to install.
9. You will asked to confirm if you want to install this profile, select Install. You maybe prompted again to install, if so, select Install again. JSS built in signing cert is a Jamf cert (the cert will say can't be verified).
10. To confirm installation of the enrolment of the profile, you may need to enter your password. This should be the password you use to log in to your device.
11. A message appears to tell you when enrollment is complete. Close the browser down using Quit Safari. After a couple of minutes, you should see Self-Service open after the profiles have downloaded.
- If the self-service app doesn't open after five minutes, please open the app yourself for the onboarding to continue. You can continue to work while the onboarding windows is installing apps.
- You may notice a Jamf connect login box appear, please enter your email address and password. You will then be asked to enter the local password (the machine password, if different to your email password). Both passwords will then be sychronised and the password you use with your UofG email, will be your new password for the device.
12. A final window will open to show you the progress of the apps being installed on your device. Please allow this to install all relevant bits of software.
- Once installation of apps is complete from the onboarding screen, you will be taken back to your desktop. Your dock's look might have changed, however you can customise it as you wish.
- If your device wasn't encrypted, you will be asked to escrow the FileVault key to Jamf Pro. Please enter your device's password to upload this key to our Jamf Pro's server.
After all the steps have been completed, please restart your device to complete enrolment and onboarding. Once you restart your machine, you will see the FileVault authentication window, which will appear with an empty username and password box.
- If you are a member of staff, your username will be in the format of firstname.lastname
- If you are a PGR student, your username will be your student number
- In both instances, use your UofG password

Set up an existing iPad
Follow the steps to set up and enrol your existing UofG iPad:
If you are setting up a new iPad on campus use UofG Visitor Wi-Fi, please do not use Eduroam Wi-Fi as you will not be able to complete the full set up
1. Open Safari and use this browser to enrol.
2. Enter this URL in the address bar: https://jamf.glasgow.ac.uk/enrol and select Enter.
3. You may be prompted to Sign In using your UofG email address and password, if you’re not already signed in.
- If you have 2FA enabled or MFA enabled you will need to authenticate and approve your sign-in request
4. Otherwise, a message will be displayed to continue with enrollment.
5. On the enrollment window displayed, select the Continue button to download the profile needed to manage your device – this will download the MDM Profile onto your device.
6. Go to System Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. The MDM Profile should be displayed.
7. Select the MDM Profile and the Install Profile window will appear.
8. Select Install.
9. A remote management notification will be displayed asking if you trust this profile. Select Trust.
10. A window will appear saying the MDM Profile is installed. Select Done.
11. Close the settings, quit Safari and navigate to the home screen.
12. On the home screen, you will the progress of the apps being installed on your iPad. Please allow this to install all relevant bits of software.
Once installation is complete, you will see some standard apps that have been installed. One of these is called Self Service.
Self Service is a custom UofG app that allows you to download University approved applications, for free.
From now on, use your UofG email address and password to log into this device
