Binding: Germany, 19th-century blind-tooled panelled calf decorated in a 15th/16th-century style;  marbled endpapers;  eight leather tabs separate sections of the text.   Size:  302 x 212 mm.
Leaf size: 290 x 199 mm.
Annotations: Very occasional early “nota” marks and underlining;  19th-century note on the author on [*1r];  19th-century price in pencil “5 guineas” on verso of front free endpaper together with a lot or catalogue number “560” and a price code “a/ml/-” both in pencil.
Decoration: Five-line initial “L” on a1r supplied in dark blue with gold decoration, with foliate in-fill in red, green, gold and reserved white, and bordered with red and green pen-work extending into the inner margin;  similarly decorated initials of blue (with reserved white in place of gold) on e7v, n4r, r1r, y2v, E1r, F1v, N1v;  other initials throughout supplied in red or in red with reserved white, except on F1r and N1r where they are supplied in blue with reserved white; paragraph marks supplied in red throughout.
