Annotations: | Occasional marginal annotations and interlinear corrections in a 16th-century hand; occasional manicules including a ten-line pen-and-ink drawing of a man with pointing hand in the inner margin of 12/9v (f. 117v); occasional evidence of early signatures; foliated (with occasional errors) “1”-“234” in a 16th-century hand. |
Decoration: | On 1/2r a twelve line initial “V” is supplied in silver (worn and revealing a pink underlay) and is set on a rectangular blue and green ground (also worn); preliminary pen-and-ink sketches of a putto standing on a column and holding aloft an urn form the outer border of the same page; the lower border consists of a green laurel wreath flanked at each side by sea-horses in pen-and-ink and with a rudimentary coat arms sketched within the wreath; the upper border is a band of green laurel leaves; at the inner margin is a simple vertical line of silver and blue which continues as a frame for the upper, outer and lower borders; some offsetting from this decorated page is visible on 1/9v; on 1/5v an eleven-line initial “B” is supplied in gold on a square ground of white-vine decoration defined in crimson, blue and green, which extends into the inner and upper margins; a similarly decorated five-line initial “T” is supplied on 1/6r and a four-line initial “A” on 6/9v (f. 59v); other initials supplied in alternate red and blue throughout. |
