Provenance: William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  source unknown, but probably bought in 1854 from evidence of a loosely inserted letter (postmarked Nov. 1854 and probably from an unnamed bookseller) which lists this and other incunabula;  an early Euing inventory number “16” in pencil on verso of front free endpaper.

Binding: Scotland, 19th-century gold-tooled russet goatskin (rebacked in 20th century);  covers decorated with a two panel design;  marbled endpapers;  sprinkled red-edged leaves;  green silk bookmark;  binder’s ticket on front pastedown “J. Carss & Co. Bookbinders, 31 Argyle Street, Glasgow”.   Size:  265 x 200 mm.
Leaf size: 259 x 193 mm.
Annotations: Two mottoes in a humanist hand “ortus humo me gigno” [followed by a monogram?] on 1/1r and “nul bien sans peine” on 1/4r;  copious marginal annotations in English in a 16th/17th-century hand (with some underlining of text) up to 2/5v (f. 15v) and on the final page of text 6/7v (f. 55v);  guide-letters for initials supplied throughout.

Imperfections: Wanting the final blank leaf.
