Provenance: Ebenezer Brown (d.1828), M.D., Inspector General of Hospitals:  presented to the Hunterian Library in March, 1852 (cf. University of Glasgow Library, Museum records, MR37/14, 15) by Miss Marjory Ettles of Stirling from the library of her late brother-in-law, Dr Ebenezer Brown, a matriculated student in the Greek Class at Glasgow University in 1786 (cf. James Coutts, 'A history of the University of Glasgow from its foundation in 1451 to 1909', pp. 404-5;  W. Innes Addison, 'The matriculation albums of the University of Glasgow from 1728 to 1858', no. 4573).

Binding: 16th/17th-century parchment;  manuscript title on spine;  manuscript shelfmarks “H Canc 3” in top compartment and “No 15(?)” in bottom compartment;  see Bg.3.19 (Johannes Tortellius, Orthographia. Venice: Hermannus Liechtenstein, 12 Nov. 1484) for similar shelfmarks.   Size:  277 x 207 mm.
Leaf size: 267 x 199 mm.
Annotations: Single “nota” mark on 7/6r (f. 68r);  marginal annotation “laus deo” on 22/4v (f. 216v);  early ink foliation visible halfway down the edge of the outer margin (many numbers cropped by binder);  on rear free endpaper “N216 Carte” in ink;  also on rear free endpaper a tipped-in note on the Mainz 1478 edition from the press of Peter Schoeffer, and a second tipped-in note in Latin on this Strassburg edition signed “E.B.” i.e. Ebenezer Brown;  on rear pastedown a numbering in ink (perhaps “£4.0.0”?).
Decoration: Eight-line initial “S” on 1/1r supplied in brown ink;  other initials supplied in red throughout with manuscript guide letters in brown ink visible;  paragraph marks supplied in red throughout.
Imperfections: Wanting the two final blank leaves.
