Sir Mark Masterman Sykes (1771-1823), 3rd Bt, of Sledmere House, Driffield, East Yorkshire:  oval leather armorial book label, gilt, on front pastedown;  lot 119 in Catalogue of the splendid, curious, and extensive library of the late Sir Mark Masterman Sykes, Bart.  Part the second (London:  Evans, 1824).
John Henry Bohn (ca. 1757-1843), bookseller, London:  purchased book at Sykes sale for £1.18.0 according to the annotated copy of the Sykes sale catalogue in University of Glasgow Library (Mu37-d.7).
William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  source unknown;  an early Euing inventory number "4" and Euing's armorial bookplate on front free endpaper.

Binding: 18th-century gold-tooled parchment;  covers decorated with a border of fillets and corner pieces;  gold-tooled spine (including a representation of an obelisk), brown leather spine label;  marbled endpapers;  sprinkled red-edged leaves;  brown silk bookmark.   Size:  276 x 209 mm.
Leaf size: 272 x 204 mm.
Annotations: Frequent marginal annotations throughout in a 15th/16th-century hand;  frequent interlinear corrections of text;  occasional manicules;  chapter headings frequently supplied in red ink;  rectos foliated at extreme top right-hand corner in an early hand (in red ink up to leaf 26, thereafter in brown ink), many leaf numbers cropped by binder;  folio numbers added to the list of sermons on 21/6r (f. 202r).
Decoration: Four-line initial “T” on 1/1r supplied in red with brown pen-work decoration;  other initials supplied in red or in purple with red decoration throughout;  paragraph marks and capital strokes supplied in red (some lower case letters also included) on every page up to 14/2r (f. 132r), thereafter less frequently.
Imperfections: None.
