Binding: England, 20th century.  Rebound by Douglas Cockerell and Son, Nov. 1971, in full red goatskin, replacing a binding of rebacked brown sheep over oak boards;  binder’s note tipped onto rear pastedown together with sample of previous cover and previous title label.   Size:  307 x 220 mm.
Leaf size: 292 x 213 mm.
Annotations: Additional reference in an early hand added to Capitula on 3/3r (f. 19r);  marginal annotation (on Julian the Apostate) in the same hand on 10/1r (f. 77r) and a single word annotation relating to the Virgin Mary also in the same hand on 46/6v (f. 368v);  16th-century marginal annotations (on St Augustine) in a different hand on 30/2r, 30/2v and 30/3r (ff. 238r, 238v and 239r);  19th/20th-century code ‘+/-’ on 1/2r and 1/2v and number ‘2’ within a circle on 1/2r, both in pencil.
Decoration: Six-line initial ‘U’ supplied in reddish-purple with pen-work extensions into the margin on 3/1v (f. 17v) i.e. start of Prologus, together with a paragraph mark in red on the same page;  three-line initial ‘A’ supplied in reddish-purple with pen-work extensions into the margin on 46/6r (f. 368r) i.e. start of cap. CLXXXVIII De conceptione Sancte Marie Virginis, together with a paragraph mark in red on the same page and with capital strokes in dark purple throughout the chapter;  chapter heading De Sancto Stephano (cap. VIII) outlined in red;  capital strokes supplied in red in cap. VII, De Sancta Anastasia.
Imperfections: Wanting the blank leaf 1/1;  heavily wormed thoughout, with loss of text.
