Binding: | Scotland, 17th-century blind-tooled calf; covers decorated with quadruple fillets to a two-panel design; the centre panel contains the initials ‘G’ and ‘M’ separated by a thistle tool; the outer panel is mitred. Original spine covering perished; two brass catch plates on rear cover; binding restored by Anthony Gardner, whose binder’s apologia, dated 1964, is written on rear free endpaper; original red-edging of leaves retained and slightly re-tinted.
