William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Askew sale for £5.10.0 according to the annotated copy of the Askew sale catalogue in Cambridge University Library;  price confirmed in the partially annotated copy of the Askew sale catalogue in Glasgow University Library (shelfmark Mu36-c.8).
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “Au.2.13”. 
Binding: England, 18th-century gold-tooled diced russia;  covers tooled to a two panel design using gold fillets and a blind roll, with a gilt ornament at each outer corner of the inner panel;  gold-tooled spine;  sprinkled red-edged leaves.  Size:  315 x 232 mm.
Leaf size: 299 x 217 mm.
Annotations: Evidence of early manuscript signatures e.g. “ff3” on 32/3 (f. 249);  18th-century price “£7:17s:6d” and the letter "S" on front free endpaper.
Decoration: Nine-line initial “E” on 1/2r supplied in red, blue and reserved white, and embellished with blue, black and red pen-work which extends into the inner margin;  similarly decorated initials at the beginning of books I-XI and at the end of book X;  capital strokes supplied in red throughout;  on 38/6r (f. 300r) the translator’s letter to Pope Paul II and the colophon which follows it are underlined in red.

Annotations: Brief marginal annotations extracting keywords in a 17th-century hand on 1/6v and 1/7r;  a few corrections in the same hand on 3/8r (f. 26r);  evidence of manuscript foliation in an early hand;  17th-century(?) annotation (a shelfmark?) “v. Al l2 B5”(?) in lower margin of 1/2r.
