Provenance:	Munich, Royal Library (now Bayerische Staatsbibliothek):  on front pastedown an engraved heraldic bookplate “Bibliothecae Electoralis Monacensis” signed “Christian. Wink. del.” and “Mich. Söckler. sculp. 1779.”;  on front free endpaper an annotation in a German hand “Duplum” and “Inc. Typ. Nmr. 135” and a note in an English hand “This is from Munich Royal Library with Book Plate, Arms - Sold at Roxburge Sale for 46..10.. - same Copy - 1478” followed by unread initials. John Ker (1740-1804), 3rd Duke of Roxburghe:  not found in the sale catalogue, A catalogue of the library of the late John Duke of Roxburghe ... (London: 1812) and its Supplement, nor in A catalogue of the library of the late John, Duke of Roxburghe ... (Kelso: 1813). Binding:	Germany, 19th-century half mottled calf, marbled paper-covered boards;  paper title label with manuscript title on spine;  sprinkled red-edged leaves;  inserted at the front of the volume is a ruled parchment leaf, whose recto and verso are divided into six columns containing manuscript tables of Gospel readings throughout the liturgical year written in a 16th-century hand, the text on the verso being continued onto the blank page 1/1r which is similarly ruled and divided into columns, and the text is then continued onto both sides of a ruled parchment leaf inserted at the rear of the volume.  Size: 402 x 303 mm.

Annotations:	Marginal annotations in German in a 16th-century hand in quires 1 and 2 - the relevant section of the outer margin cut and the annotation folded over;  very occasional brief marginal annotations in Latin in an early hand;  partially read inscription in German “Von gottes genaden Herzog [...]” in a 17th-century(?) hand in upper margin of the inserted parchment leaf at front of volume;  a 19th-century price “£4-4-0” in pencil on front pastedown.
Decoration:	Fourteen-line initial “F” on 1/2r supplied in red on a square ground of red pen-work decoration;  other initials supplied throughout in red or in red and reserved white, many with marginal flourishes;  capital strokes and paragraph marks in red throughout.

Provenance:	Thomas Payne, the Younger (1752-1831), bookseller, London:  sold book to Michael Wodhull;  Wodhull’s note in ink on front flyleaf “of Payne”. Michael Wodhull (1740-1816), poet, translator and book collector:  inscription in ink on front flyleaf “£4: 4s: = M: Wodhull Nov: 23d 1792” together with Wodhull’s annotation “Collated & complete” and his bibliographical references to Panzer and Seemiller. John Edmund Severne (1826-1899), of Thenford, Northamptonshire, M.P.:  lot 385 “Biblia latina, very fine copy, with beautiful border and initial letter richly illuminated in gold and colours, citron morocco, gilt edges, by Padeloup, very scarce, folio. Nurnbergae, A. Coburger, 1478” in the sale catalogue, Catalogue of the extensive & valuable library collected at the end of the last and beginning of the present century by Michael Wodhull ... the property of J.E. Severne, Esq. M.P., of Thenford House, Banbury, Northamptonshire. Which will be sold by auction, by Messrs Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge ... 11th of January 1886, and nine following days. University of Glasgow:  apparently acquired in 1953 according to accession number (1662.-1953) on University Library bookplate on front pastedown;  source unidentified despite the recent acquisition date.
Binding:	France, 18th-century citron goatskin;  covers decorated with a triple gold-fillet border, a small gold fleuron at each corner;  gold-tooled spine;  gilt turn-ins;  blue paste-paper endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves;  blue silk bookmark.  Binding ascribed to Antoine Michel Padeloup (see Provenance).  Size: 407 x 290 mm.

Annotations:	On front free endpaper is a 19th-century pencil reference in German to the printed foliation and to the three illuminated initials;  traces of an erased pencil inscription including Hain number 3069* and possibly including the word “Presented” on front free endpaper;  other erased pencil annotations on front free endpaper;  very faint date in pencil on rear free endpaper “2 7 97” and also faintly written in pencil the numbers “468” and “18” (the latter lightly scored through);  20th-century price “£50.0.0” (before 1953) in pencil on front flyleaf;  mid 20th-century duplicated typescript description of this copy (perhaps intended as caption for an exhibition?) tipped onto rear free endpaper.
Decoration:	On 1/2r, col. 1, a fourteen-line initial “F” in shades of blue to represent foliage is set on a square ground of patterned gold within a frame composed of eight red and green segments;   on the same page are elaborate floral and foliate borders in red, green, light and dark blue, pink, dull yellow and gold.  On 1/5r (i.e. iiij) a five-line initial “I” in various shades of crimson to represent foliage is set on a square ground of patterned gold within a green and yellow frame, from which there extends a floral and foliate border into the inner and upper margins.  At the beginning of Proverbs on 25/1r (f. 235r i.e. ccxxxiiij), col. 1, a seven-line initial “I” in shades of blue to represent foliage is set on a square ground of patterned gold within a frame composed of eight red and green segments, and in col. 2 an eight-line initial “P” decorated in green and black to represent foliage is set on a similar square gold ground within a frame of eight red and blue segments;  in the centre margin of the same page - dividing the two columns of text - is a green stem from which floral and foliate decoration extends into the outer margins.  Other initials throughout are supplied in red or washed-out blue;  many chapter numbers underlined in red.
