| Provenance: | Trier, North Rhine-Westphalia, Augustinian Hermits: inscription on a2r “Bibliothecae Fratrum eremit[arum] S[ancti] P[atris] Augustini Treviris” partially deleted to read simply "Bibliothecae Treviris"; a similar inscription (also partially deleted) on third front flyleaf. Frantz Buchbender (fl. 1641): inscription on first front flyleaf “Item hab ich meister frantz buchbender geben wegen dieses buchs Einzubinden zwein lutzemburger thaller die welche zwein thaller hab ich vun dem fohrmals Johan munij Empfang[en] den 21 mertz 1641”. | Binding: | Low Countries(?), 17th-century blind-tooled calf over bevelled wooden boards; both covers have a centre panel within a broad frame formed by a triple fillet and two separate rolls (a diaper roll with quatrefoils in lozenges and a roll with cresting); each centre panel is decorated at the inner corners with a fleur-de-lys shaped ornament and the same tool is used four times to produce a diamond-shaped design in the middle of the panel; evidence on both covers of four bosses and two clasps (all now lost); four spine compartments decorated with a leaf-like tool in blind (a red leather title label added at a later date); dark blue/green-edged leaves; a few parchment index tabs remaining; given new paper endleaves in the 19th century (originals not preserved); original flyleaves preserved; first front flyleaf and first rear flyleaf have watermark of a cross superimposed on two Cs intertwined and surmounted by a crown.
