Binding: Scotland, 19th-century parchment-covered boards, red leather spine title label;  sprinkled blue and red-edged leaves;  binder’s stamp on front pastedown “Maclehose, Glasgow”.  Size:  292 x 208 mm.
Leaf size: 285 x 200 mm.
Annotations: Profuse marginal annotations in a 15th/16th-century hand;  occasional diagrams and nota marks in the same hand;  19th-century number in pencil “272/5” on a1r (probably a binder’s job number).
Decoration: Twelve-line initial “Q” on a1r supplied in blue and reserved white on a square ground of red pen-work, with red pen-work decoration extending into the inner and central margins;  similarly decorated initials on b6r, g1r, h4r, k6r and n4v;  other initials and paragraph marks supplied in red throughout.
Imperfections: Worming in quire p resulting in loss of text (including part of the colophon).

Annotations: Frequent marginal annotations in quires a-h in a 16th-century hand.
Decoration: Twelve-line initial “Q” on a1r supplied in black ink and surrounded by black pen-work decoration which includes human faces - the whole covered in a light green wash;  three other initials in quire a supplied in black ink.
Imperfections: None.
