Provenance: Agen, Jesuit College:  inscription on 1/2r “Coll. Soc. Jesu Agen Catal. Inscrip.”
Richard Mead (1673-1754) M.D.:  Mead’s shelfmark “3I,7,,2.” in ink on first front flyleaf (perhaps partially repeated very faintly in pencil on 1/2r as “III”);  lot 1644, p. 223 (3 May 1755) in 'Bibliotheca Meadiana' (London:  1754);  sold for £4.6.6 according to the priced copy of the Mead sale catalogue in University of Glasgow Library (shelfmark Mu33-e.30) - though a pencil note on the first front flyleaf gives a price of “4-15-0”.
William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  perhaps purchased by Hunter at the Mead sale.
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “At.4.9”.
Binding: England, 18th-century gold-tooled calf;  covers decorated with a double-fillet border and with a central panel formed by a triple fillet, with a floral ornament at each outer corner;  gold-tooled spine;  marbled endpapers;  gilt-edged leaves.  Size: 332 x 234 mm.
Leaf size: 324 x 222 mm.
Annotations: Copious marginal annotations mainly in Latin (but occasionally in Greek) in more than one humanist hand, written in black ink and in faded red ink;  frequent interlinear corrections;  some spaces for lacunae in the text filled-in in manuscript;  occasional manicules and “nota” marks;  on the final blank page 14/8v (f. 136v) a substantial passage of manuscript Greek text of 23 lines from Ioannes Zonaras, 'Epitome historion', X.12, beginning (in transliteration) “Ho de Kikeron [i.e. Cicero] demegoresas, epeise, pantas me mnesikakein allelois ...” and ending “pros orgen” cf. 'Ioannis Zonarae Epitome historiarum ... Edidit Ludovicus Dindorfius', 6 vols (Lipsiae:  1868-75) v.2, p.373 (identified by David Weston, University of Glasgow Library, 2010).

Provenance: Guillaume Prousteau (1626-1715) jurist, of Orléans:  initials “G” and “P” stamped in gold on front and rear covers respectively;  the same initials appear on the binding of another Glasgow incunabulum:  Sidonius Apollinaris, Epistolae et carmina.  [Utrecht:  Nicolaus Ketelaer and Gerardus de Leempt, not after 1474], which has an inscription on 1/2r “hic lib[er] fuit Guil[lemi] Prousteau Antecess[oris] Aurel[ianensis] nunc est usus studios[orum] o[mn]ium”.
University of Glasgow Library:  source unknown;  acquired by University Library before 1791;  shelfmark “CE.6.8” on University Library bookplate on front pastedown matching entry in A. Arthur, 'Catalogus impressorum librorum in Bibliotheca Universitatis Glasguensis', (Glasguae:  1791).
Binding: 17th-century blind-tooled calf;  covers decorated with a triple-fillet border and a centre panel formed by intersecting quadruple fillets;  pierced holes at fore-edges of both boards indicate the book once had clasps;  initials "G" and "P" in gold added to front and rear panels respectively in 17th/early 18th century;  spine covering no longer present. Size: 271 x 179 mm.
Leaf size: Approximately 271 x 179 mm.
Annotations: On front pastedown the (17th/18th-century) price “xii stuy:” i.e. 12 stuyvers;  on front free endpaper pencil numbers “166--15” and “234--5”.
Decoration: Unknown.
Imperfections: The text block has been removed (stolen?) and only the binding, endpapers and flyleaves now remain;  contents reported missing in 1951.
