Calligraphy as Meditation

Welcome event for new lead Chaplain, Thursday 12 September, 5pm

The Inter-faith Chaplaincy is delighted to welcome you to an informal welcome event for Rev Scott Blythe in the Memorial Chapel on Thursday 12 September at 5pm.

Rev Scott Blythe in the Memorial Chapel

As you may be aware, the University recently announced the appointment of Reverend Scott Blythe as the new lead University Chaplain.

Scott is a Minister of the Church of Scotland with over twenty years’ experience of working within ministry in a variety of roles. Scott is an alumnus of the University of Glasgowcurrently working in the Parish of Netherlee and Stamperland.  He has extensive ecumenical experiencedirecting programs at a retreat centre, working with local multi faith partnerships and providing Chaplaincy support in a Hospice and HE setting.

Scott has worked with young people in diverse communities across London, Scotland and the United States His compassionaterelational and ecumenical approach to ministry and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life make him a wonderful addition to our UoG community.

As Chaplain, Reverend Blythe will provide spiritual support and guidance, leading our community of volunteer chaplains and faith contacts to provide opportunities for worship and faith-based activities. His vision for an ecumenical, accessible and engaging chaplaincy aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering an inclusive, vibrant and supportive home for students during their studies at UoG.

Speaking about the appointment, Scott said: “I am so pleased to be the next Chaplain to the University of Glasgow. It’s quite amazing for me to be returning to where I graduated in Divinity a few years ago, and to be taking on this fantastic role of providing spiritual care to the diverse and exciting community that is the University.

I think I will be wandering around and pinching myself as I begin - so please be gentle with me as I settle!

We are excited to welcome Reverend Blythe to our team at UoG and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our community. Please join us in extending a warm welcome.

Tranquility Zone, 1st and 3rd Monday each month

NEW! Starting this semester on 16 September at 6pm.

The Tranquility Zone is a calm, meditative space for UofG students and staff amongst the busyness of campus life. Join us to listen to relaxing instrumental music and hear inspirational quotations on the theme for the evening (such as love, truthfulness, generosity). You can bring your own quotations to share, or simply listen to others. Following this, you’re invited to have a cup of tea, some light refreshments and uplifting conversations about what you’ve just heard.

Each session will be led by Dr Cosma Gottardi, our Honorary Bahá’í Chaplain and will be held in room 259 of the Inter-faith Chaplaincy offices (entering the main Gilbert Scott building via the Lion and Unicorn staircase on Professors’ Square).
