Sutton Papers
Papers of the art critic and journal editor Denys Miller Sutton (1917-1991).
His papers include correspondence and other documents, mainly relating to the period 1962-1989, during which time he was the renowned editor of the arts magazine Apollo.
Already a succesful art critic for Country Life and the Financial Times, Sutton became editor of Apollo in 1962, revitalising it and winning the journal, and himself, many new admirers during his quarter-century at the helm. Included in the Sutton Papers is his Apollo editorial correspondence, his working files, book and article drafts, presscuttings and other publications.
The collection was given to the library by Sutton in 1990. A large quantity of additional material was donated by Mrs Cynthia Sutton in 1992, 1993 and 1995. The collection has not yet been sorted and the papers are not yet available to researchers.
