John Walter Gregory Collection
This is a collection of eyewitness accounts of the 1910 Glasgow earthquake gathered together by John Walter Gregory (1864-1932). A geologist and explorer, Gregory was Professor of Geology at Glasgow University from 1904 until 1929. He also worked for the British Museum (1887-1900), and Melbourne University (1900-1904). He travelled widely and published over twenty works in the fields of geology and geography.
The manuscript collection was augmented in 2004 by the transferral (from the Geology Department Library) of a small number of books from Gregory's personal library. Several of the items are annotated in manuscript by him. Included are a small number of elementary text books written by Gregory for schools in Australia.
