James Moffatt Papers
Papers of James Moffatt (1870-1944), theologian. The collection contains letters, notes, sermons and lectures, as well as papers relating to the American Standard Bible Committee.
A graduate of Glasgow University, James Moffatt trained at the Free Church College, Glasgow. He was first a practising Minister before becoming Professor of Greek and New Testament Exegesis at Mansfield College, Oxford in 1911. He returned to Glasgow in 1915 as Professor of Church History at the United Free Church College. From 1927-1939 he was Washburn Professor of Church History, Union Theological Seminary, New York.
Donated by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland as part of the Trinity College Library.
