This exhibition celebrated the Archive Awareness Campaign 2009 - 'Take Flight!' - during the month of November in 2009. Glasgow University Archive Services contain many images of flight - both air and imagination. We have four major collections that relate to the Aircraft construction industry (2 pages, 46kb, pdf) during the World Wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 as well as many images of aircraft in use. We have chosen images from the records of William Beardmore & Co Ltd to illustrate these collections. The George Bennie Railplane collection tells the story of an invention well ahead of its time and heads up our collection of images of flights of imagination which became reality. |
