Vice-Rector and Rector

 

In 1761 and 1762, Adam Smith acted as Praeses (unofficial Vice-Rector), presiding over University meetings when the Rector and an official Vice-Rector were not present.  He was appointed Vice-Rector on 19th April 1763, and Rector on 15th November 1787.
