Quaestor of the Library

 

Adam Smith was officially Quaestor (Treasurer), responsible for buying books for the Library, from 1758 to 1760.  He also acted as Quaestor in place of William Cullen (Quaestor 1755) after he left for the University of Edinburgh, and William Rouet (Quaestor 1756-1758).
