John Robertson Bequest 2024

Applications for research funding are invited for the John Robertson Bequest which is administered by the Senate “at their discretion for the purposes of original research”. Applicants are advised that the grants awarded are not likely to exceed £1,500 per application.

Any member of staff engaged in academic research is eligible to apply for a modest award with preference being given to those topics which do not readily fall into the fields of interest covered by Research Councils, Charitable Bodies and well-to-do Learned Societies. Evidence that you have already applied for or are seeking funding elsewhere would be advantageous to your application, as would an indication of the sustainability of your research.

Preference will be given to applications from members of staff in the earlier stages of their career, whether full-time or part-time, and from staff who have not received support from the Bequest in the last five years. Research proposals which have the potential to attract further future funding are also welcomed, as the Bequest funds can be used to support preliminary study to facilitate additional funding applications.

Those wishing to apply for financial assistance should do so by completing an application form and sending to the relevant Head of School by Friday 12 January 2024.

The form will then be signed by the Head of School and sent to the Head of College, who will forward on details of successful candidates to Academic Policy & Governance by Friday 23 February 2024. Colleges are responsible for setting their own internal deadline for receipt of applications.

Please note that students (including research students) are not eligible for JRB funding.

Any questions with regard to applications to the Bequest should be directed to senate-administrative-assistant@glasgow.ac.uk.
