Talent Scholarships
The University is to make available 50 undergraduate Talent Scholarships each of £1,000 p.a. payable annually and starting in 2007-08. These will be allocated to UK-based students who have significant academic potential and are most in need of financial support.
Policy and Guidelines
The Talent Scholarships are scholarships which, from 2007-08, are being introduced to support academically talented students for whom the idea of accepting a University place is attended by the prospect of financial difficulty. The Scholarships address the Learning & Teaching Strategy objective to “increase the number of applications from talented individuals from under-represented groupings.” Each scholarship is valued at £1,000 payable annually, subject to satisfactory academic progress. While the Scholarships are available only to UK-based students, other funding sources will ensure that their introduction will not disadvantage overseas students.
A successful applicant for a Talent Scholarship must:
- demonstrate strong academic attainment;
- be UK domiciled and classified as a 'Home' student for fee purposes;
- intend to commence his or her first full-time undergraduate degree programme;
- demonstrate that he or she is experiencing financial hardship.
Applications will be screened in the first instance by the Recruitment Admission and Participation Service, and a Talent Scholarships Panel will determine the allocation of awards.
