Senate approved proposals for the quality assurance of courses and programmes offered by Glasgow International College (GIC).

The University’s agreement with Kaplan International - which owns GIC - provides for of a Joint Academic Management Board (JAMB) to oversee academic matters within GIC.

Senate agreed that:

• a Collegiate Board of Studies (CBoS) should be set up, on the lines of other GU Boards of Studies, and it would be its job to consider changes to GIC programmes and courses, and to make recommendations to the JAMB.
• the CBoS should be chaired by the Convener of the University’s Academic Standards Committee (ASC), and its members should include GU subject moderators and ASC’s Faculty reps.

The JAMB will comprise three representatives each from GU and GIC. The first convener, appointed by the Principal, will be Professor Andrea Nolan, Vice-Principal (Learning, Teaching and Internationalisation). The Senate agreed that the convener of the CBoS should also be on the Board.

GIC staff will be responsible for preparing Annual Monitoring Reports (AMR) and, as in GU, these might include matters raised by students and External Examiners (appointed by GU). AMRs will be scrutinised by the CBoS which might add its own comments before directing them to the JAMB.
