Assessment 2021-22: a reminder of the changes from arrangements applying in 2020-21
Coursework
During session 2020-21 extensions of up to 10 working days were permitted, with anything above this requiring students to make a good cause claim. During 2021-22, the normal position will apply: extensions of anything more than five working days require a good cause claim.
Degree regulations: Requirements for award
During 2020-21 certain award requirements were waived or varied. In 2021-22 these changes will no longer be in force. In other words, the normal degree requirements will apply for full-time PGT students and UG students registered in their final year of study in 2021-22. This includes the following:
- The award of an honours degree requires a Grade D3 to be achieved in the dissertation/project.
- The award of Merit/Distinction on PGT programmes requires an overall GPA across the taught courses and dissertation/project, and in addition requires specific thresholds to be met in the taught courses AND for the dissertation/project.
Deferral of exam diets
In view of the significant disruption experienced by some students, particularly during semester 2, in session 2020-21 honours students were offered the option of deferring their full spring 2021 examination diet to August. This was an exceptional arrangement and it is not expected that this option will be available in spring 2022.
Progress decisions/entry to honours
In 2020-21 Schools were reminded of the flexibility built into some progression rules and encouraged to make use of this where appropriate. It is anticipated that progress requirements will be applied in the normal way at the end of session 2021-22.
