Recognising Excellence in Teaching
RET is the University of Glasgow’s internal CPD framework, which aims to provide development opportunities as well as professional recognition of expertise in teaching and supporting learning. Engaging with the RET framework provides an opportunity to reflect on and develop your practice. For some roles, or for promotion to some grades, Fellowship of RET is a requirement, but the RET team is not involved in the promotions process. More information on the requirements for promotion can be found here. Questions regarding promotions should be directed to HR.
Maintaining its alignment with the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) means that University of Glasgow Fellowship is portable, professional recognition.
There are four categories of recognition: Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow. Applying is free and there are two deadlines each year for submission. There is a structured programme of support consisting of workshops, peer groups and teaching observations that assist participants to write their application.
Anyone who is employed at the University of Glasgow and is involved in teaching or supporting the learning of UofG students can make an application to RET and gain recognition for their professional practice.
The RET Application Process
There are two application deadlines per year, usually one in March and one in September. You must attend an introductory workshop prior to applying. Introductory workshops for the March application deadline run in Semester 1. Introductory workshops for the September deadline run in Semester 2.
Writing your Fellowship application should be seen as a developmental process, and as such it can take from three months to over a year to complete, depending on which category you are applying for. There is no limit to how long you can be registered with RET.
Note that for applications in the Associate Fellow, Fellow, and Senior Fellow categories you will need to undertake a peer observation of teaching or student support. Therefore, it is important that you prepare your application during a time that you can arrange this.

Getting Started
All participants who engage with RET must attend a mandatory session to introduce the requirements of RET. This includes those who are new to the framework or who have obtained their recognition elsewhere, including direct application to Advance HE, and who wish to pursue another category of recognition via RET.
During this session, a member of the RET team will present an overview of the application process and the requirements for each category. To book a slot please complete the online form for your preferred date. Please note that bookings will close when places are filled.
