PeopleXD accessibility statement
The University of Glasgow is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to the PeopleXD system used by staff to access their personal details, view payslips and manage leave requests, etc. Internally, this is often referred to as the ‘Employee Dashboard’.
It also includes PeopleXDRecruit, the e-recruitment portal website that allows applicants to apply for vacancies via the PeopleXDRecruit module, part of the PeopleXD system. This website is used by both internal staff members and external candidates to apply for vacancies at the University of Glasgow. An account is required to submit an application, which anyone can create. This website is administered by the University of Glasgow; however, the module is a third party solution owned by the Access Group, with minimal customisations available applicable to the University of Glasgow’s usage.
Using the PeopleXD system and PeopleXDRecruit e-recruitment services
The PeopleXD system for managing HR and Payroll data and processes, as well as the PeopleXDRecruit e-recruitment portal website, is run by the University of Glasgow and developed and hosted off-site by the Access Group.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this service. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts. The contrast ratio between text and background is at least 4.5:1
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the service using just a keyboard and use menus consistently
- navigate most of the service using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the service using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:
- the text won’t reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
- you can’t modify the line height or spacing of text
- most older PDF documents aren’t fully accessible to screen reader software
- some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
- you can’t skip to the main content when using a screen reader.

Compliance status - PeopleXD e-recruitment portal website
The Access Group have confirmed that the PeopleXDRecruit e-recruitment portal website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version [2.1] AA standard, due to the identified non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Global issues
- Lack of designated page regions and bypass block
- There is no declaration of header, main, or navigation, limiting the feedback
given to screen readers users about their location within the page. As this
page is written in HTML4.0, these attributes are not available. - Page does not reflow to mobile size
- The page does not act in a responsive way down to mobile size to allow the
website to be used on multiple devices - Information items cannot be selected using keyboard
- The information buttons cannot be accessed when using the keyboard. They
do not receive focus and are obscured from keyboard navigation and screen
reader users
Heading structure
- There is no logical heading structure for the page content, making it difficult to
understand the importance and hierarchy of information on the page - Lack of colour contrast
- Text under the navigation links does not meet the colour contrast
requirements. Other colours should be selected to make this easier to read. - Links are not distinguishable as they only change colour. This means that
users who are unable to perceive colour are unable to distinguish links from
the rest of the content. - Login/Register section
- Hidden yet focusable second submit button
- Insufficient form validation
- The validation used for the form does not highlight individual fields
Search Vacancies
- Lack of labels for form inputs
- Forms lack the correct markup for form labels. These should be programmatically linked to the form fields they are associated with.
Job Results page
- Page language not declared
- Language of the page is not declared. This could cause issues for screen readers identifying the correct language to announce page content.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility
The PeopleXD software provider, the Access Group has confirmed that all new software development will meet accessibility standards and we will liaise with the supplier to ensure we take advantage of alterations/improvements which are made available by them.
As referenced in the above table, the University is currently working with the Access Group to improve accessibility standards for the PeopleXD e-recruitment portal website, by migrating to an alternative recruitment module owned by the supplier which will be fully compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. The anticipated implementation date for this module is by 31st December 2024.
The Access Group has created a suite of automated tools which continuously tests their products during development against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 standards. This ensures any product they develop meets at least the WGAC 2.0 standard. They also continuously update their tooling so they can adapt to changing standards, software and requirements.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 10 August 2022. It was last reviewed on 29 July 2024.
This website was last tested 8 May 2024. The test was carried out by The Access Group.
The Access Group test their products - which includes the People XD system and PeopleXD e-recruitment portal website - with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA & Apple VO both in house and in the field to ensure Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) conventions are addressed and have formed relationships with users with a range of abilities to better understand the nature of accessibility requirements. In addition, recent testing conducted by the Access Group on the PeopleXD e-recruitment portal module that is used by the University of Glasgow was conducted using a variety of methods including MacOS Voiceover, Axe Chrome plugin and included manual keyboard testing and Inspect.
