Buildings may seem solid and permanent, but they are easily destroyed, and once they are gone, it can be difficult to remember what they looked like. More than just landmarks, they hold personal memories and tell important stories.

As part of Glasgow 850, Building Memories looks at three demolished Glasgow buildings, each of which lives on in surprising ways in The Hunterian collections.

This small display features items including pottery, medals and archival material related to the 1888 International Exhibition building, the University of Glasgow’s Old College and 78 Southpark Avenue, where Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh lived from 1906 to 1914.

Building Memories also features a new commemorative plate by Make it Glasgow, specially commissioned by the Lord Provost of Glasgow to celebrate the 850th anniversary of the city.

Kelvin Hall is open Monday–Friday 6am–10pm, Saturday 8am–6pm and Sunday 8am–8pm.
Free entry.
