THE HUNTERIAN POEMS
Paysage Mysterieux
Blue-green and chalk
like a flag
of frilled cloud a reel of sky
over the turfed swell of the hill
or breakers furled
below a curled cliff edge
perspective upended
or ourselves vectors
from the hill’s interior
fragments that make this place
embedded under the roil
of dark soil and pasture
bright angular minerals
in the form of horns and polyhedrals
vermillion and terre verte
salmon pink cadmium yellow
the minded pigments
of rag-tag dancers fleeting
through an odd uterine dream world
under the hill as if
out of the real
geometric figures
incised into the tawny oxides
of shadow earth
