Two sensory backpacks are available for visitors with sensory needs.
The Hunterian is delighted to announce that there are now two sensory backpacks available to use during visits to the museum. The backpacks contain a variety of different items to help support the experience of visitors with sensory needs.
Each backpack contains:
- Ear Defenders
- Fidget Toys
- Storybooks
- 'What to expect at the Hunterian Museum' booklet
- Magnifying Glass
- ‘I Want’ sheet
- PECS* specific to the Museum (*Picture Exchange Communication System)
The backpacks are available from the Hunterian Museum reception for visitors that require one.
This new initiative follows the development of an Autism-friendly pre-visit visual resource developed by a Museum Studies (MSc) student, Aimee Fletcher, with the aim of making the Hunterian Museum more accessible to visitors who would benefit from having more pre-visit information available.
