Content Advisory: Racism and Racial Discrimination

The UN Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, observed annually on 21 March, provides an opportunity to raise awareness and promote discussion about racial discrimination and its impact on individuals and communities.

The University of Glasgow plays a crucial role in shaping the thinking and attitudes of future leaders and is actively working with our community to eliminate racial discrimination through our recent #TogetherAgainstRacism anti-racism campaign, SMG commitments and understanding racism report and action plan.

Following the launch of our anti-racism campaign ‘Together Against Racism’ at the end of 2022, the University’s Race Champion Uzma Khan (Director of Strategic Planning, Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Vice Principal) wanted to continue the conversation with three of our student body Presidents. Uzma sat down with Vivek Pandya (GUSA), Lachlan Farquharson (QMU) and Fuad Kehinde (GUU) and discussed a whole host of topics, from their reactions to our anti-racism campaign, their personal experiences of racism as well as how to be an ally. It was a very powerful and insightful conversation about race and racism and what we must do as a community, to be better.
