Colleagues ae invited to invited to join us on Monday 23rd September at 17:00 for Cara – Council for At-Risk Academics Networking Event. The event will be hosted in the Senate Room within the Main Building of the Gilmorehill Campus.

In November 2022, the University of Glasgow was awarded University of Sanctuary status in recognition of the University’s commitment to supporting those who have been forcibly displaced from their homes. As a University, we are committed to ensuring that background and life circumstance are never a barrier to higher education for the brightest minds.

We recognise that we cannot achieve this in isolation, and I am incredibly proud of the University’s longstanding partnership with Cara, which allows us to offer effective and meaningful support to those impacted by the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine and elsewhere around the world.

Since 1933, Cara has helped countless academics who have been forced to flee persecution, suffering or conflict around the world, supporting them to continue their work by relocating them to universities and cities across the UK. At the University of Glasgow, we have made a commitment to supporting eight Cara Fellows annually, and I am delighted to welcome them to our community.

The Networking Event will provide an opportunity to hear from Stephen Wordsworth, Executive Director of Cara, who will share the work of Cara over the last nine decades as well as future developments, alongside personal reflections from Cara Fellows and representatives.  Chris Goldie, Cara’s fundraising consultant, will also outline what Cara is now doing to broaden its fundraising base, to be able to continue its work for many more years, and how individuals can support this process.

Refreshments and canapés will be provided. To book your place, please complete the following form by Wednesday 11th September, noting any dietary or accessibility requirements:
