MAY 2024
May 9th marks Europe Day, a day celebrating peace and unity, and commemorating the historic 1950 Schuman Declaration which laid the foundations for the European Union.
At the University of Glasgow, we are proud of our international outlook and of our reputation as an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming institution. Over a third of our students are international and we have more than 400 international mobility partners, as well as delivering a range of qualifications in partnership with universities across the globe.
This issue of our Connect newsletter is a celebration of our European partners and connections, and the ethos of cooperation and teamwork which underpin Europe Day, but also our international strategy, Global Glasgow 2025.
Despite operating in a post-Brexit landscape, we continue to strive to play a meaningful and impactful role within the European education sector. During these times of growing protectionism, we must continue to work together, exchanging thoughts and ideas, and advocating for the power of collaboration.
As a founding member of the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities and a member of CIVIS, a European University Alliance, we greatly value our partnerships with our European networks and partners and are delighted to shine a spotlight on these in this Europe Day edition of our newsletter, as well as including an update on our engagement with Horizon Europe.
Best wishes,
Rachel Sandison
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement)
