MARCH 2025
As a globally engaged, research-intensive institution, international collaboration is central to our mission. As proud members of Universitas 21, The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, and the CIVIS European University Alliance, we recognise that we can achieve far more when we work together.
Collaboration is the driving force behind innovation. The partnership between the University of Glasgow and Biocon exemplifies this synergy, uniting academic excellence with industry expertise. This partnership fuels groundbreaking research, facilitates student mobilities, and promotes knowledge-exchange initiatives, all with the shared goal of advancing global healthcare solutions. In this issue of Connect, we explore the impact of this partnership, as well as the key developments from our recent University delegation to India, offering valuable insights into the power of academia-industry collaboration in shaping the future of life sciences.
However, true collaboration must be equitable, capacity-strengthening, and mutually beneficial, not only supporting our own community but also empowering those we partner with. This requires a deep understanding of the diverse contexts within which our partners operate and a commitment to fostering engagement on an equal footing. In this issue, we highlight the need for dedicated capacity-strengthening initiatives that enhance research management capabilities in low- and middle-income countries, ensuring our partners can collaborate internationally in a fair and impactful way.
From May 27─30, higher education colleagues from around the world will gather in San Diego, California, for the NAFSA 2025 Annual Conference & Expo, including many of my colleagues from the University of Glasgow. I hope this event serves as a valuable opportunity to strengthen international relationships, forge new connections, and engage with #TeamUofG colleagues in person.
Best wishes,
Professor Rachel Sandison OBE
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement)
