Adam Smith international summer school
Would your students like to spend a summer with Adam Smith? We're holding an international summer school in Glasgow on the "Age and ideas of Adam Smith".
We warmly invite students from our partner institutions to follow in the footsteps of Scotland’s founder of modern economics.
Our unique summer school provides the opportunity for students to immerse themselves in Adam Smith's ideas at the university where he studied and taught.
“Age and Ideas of Adam Smith” is directed by Dr Craig Smith, Lecturer in the Scottish Enlightenment and the world class expert on Adam Smith. It’s part of the University’s celebrations to mark the 300th anniversary of Smith’s birth.
Students on the course will:
- Learn more about, read and discuss Smith’s work with leading world experts
- Try something new, from moral philosophy and literary criticism to economics and politics
- Visit Smith’s favourite places in Scotland, with trips planned to Edinburgh and Fife
- Gain credits for academic study
- Meet new people and make lifelong friends
By the end of the course students will be able to:
- Identify the key ideas in Adam Smith’s work
- Analyse Smith’s ideas in their historical context
- Evaluate Smith’s legacy for political economy and philosophy
- Apply Smithian ideas to contemporary social and political issues
This exciting opportunity is open to all students, no matter where they are in the world or what they’re studying.
