The University of Virginia in Charlottesville (UVA), frequently referred to simply as Virginia, is a public-private flagship and research university.  The University was established in 1819, and its original governing Board of Visitors included Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe. The University is located in Central Virginia just 30 miles east of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Charlottesville. Charlottesville pairs stunning natural beauty with a lively mix of arts, culture and history. In the span of a single day, you can go horseback riding, dine at a five-star restaurant and catch a concert at one of the many performance venues downtown.
