The Bureau of Investigative Journalism is partnering with scientists from the Urban Big Data Centre at the University of Glasgow and residents of Southwark, an inner London borough, to install heat, humidity, and air pollution monitors in their homes during the summer.

They will also work with participants, especially during heatwaves, to collect their personal experiences. They encourage them to journal, take photos, and participate in interviews.

By combining the data from the monitors with people’s personal reflections, we will highlight the lived experiences of those most affected by heat inequality. This is the first time this has been done in the UK, and we hope it will spark change that can benefit everyone.
