Short term rental platforms such as Airbnb have penetrated housing markets and communities throughout the world. By absorbing residential dwellings, short term rentals reduce permanent housing supply and exacerbate affordability pressures.

This presentation with Nicole Gurran, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, the University of Sydney examines these issues as they have manifested in Australia, looking at the range of urban and regional settings in which conflicts between permanent and short term rentals emerge.

Drawing on a series of studies conducted between 2017-2024, the webinar sheds light on the tensions between housing needs and tourism, and outlines existing and potential regulatory responses.

This hybrid event can be attended in-person or online via Zoom.
