A rise in rankings

UofG recently placed highly in several prestigious university rankings.

The University rose four places to 82nd in the world in the THE World University Rankings. These are the most comprehensive world university rankings, including 1,799 higher education institutions. We have six subject areas ranked in the world top 100.

  • Clinical & Health stays unchanged at 49th in the world
  • Arts & Humanities rises 13 places to 67th in the world
  • Education moves into the world top 100, at 73rd in the world
  • Life Sciences moves into the world top 100, at 88th in the world
  • Law and Psychology both remain within world top 100, at 63rd and 94th respectively.

We also performed strongly in the inaugural QS World University Rankings for Sustainability, ranking second overall in the UK and 13th in the world.

In the Guardian University Guide 2023 we ranked 11th in the UK. Our score remains steady, with last year’s rankings also placing the University in 11th place. Overall, the result cements the University’s position as the the second-best-ranked university in Scotland and the eighth-best-ranked Russell Group university.

At the subject level, the University is ranked

  • 1st in the UK for Zoology, Sports Science and Dentistry
  • 2nd in the UK for Film Production & Photography 
  • 2nd in the UK for General Nursing
  • 3rd in the UK for Anatomy & Physiology
  • 3rd in the UK for History of Art
  • 3rd in the UK for Psychology.
