Wednesday 8th March 2023 marked International Women’s Day, and the official theme was #EmbraceEquity with the notion that equality is not an optional extra but rather an essential requirement. The #EmbraceEquity campaign theme seeks to get the world talking about why "equal opportunities are no longer enough" - and can in fact be exclusionary, rather than inclusive.
Referencing the #EmbraceEquity theme of 2023’s International Women’s Day, the University proudly presented a new additional to the World Changing Glasgow Conversations Series. This session explored the importance of women being represented in leadership positions, and involved at all levels of decision-making, as well as the challenges that women continue to face in moving into these roles.
The expert panel will be led by Ms Rachel Sandison, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for External Engagement at the University of Glasgow. Panel members also included Professor Kezia Dugdale, Director of the John Smith Centre & Lecturer of Practices in Public Service, Mrs Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson, and founder of Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited and Dame Katherine Grainger DBE, chair of UK Sport and Chancellor of the University of Glasgow.
