This workshop will introduce pupils to the work of Historic Environment Scotland, where they will learn how heritage is ‘under attack’ in the modern world. After completing activities about weathering, erosion and the properties of stone, pupils will discover how this science has been used in a real-life example of conservation in action. Pupils will also learn about career roles in the industry.
Part 2: An optional 30-minute guided tour can be arranged for directly after the workshop to continue its themes and investigate conservation work that has been carried out at the cathedral. This tour will focus on the outside of the cathedral.
Part 3: A self-led investigation sheet, linked to the Defending Scotland’s Heritage themes, is available for exploration inside and outside the cathedral. The investigation sheet will be emailed to schools prior to the workshop. Visits inside the cathedral will be booked by HES upon request.
